Using digital innovation to transform event planning and engagement

The challenge

Out There Arts, a registered charity based in Great Yarmouth, is known for championing artistic excellence in circus, street, and outdoor arts. Their flagship event, the Out There Festival, is internationally acclaimed, drawing over 60,000 visitors annually with its exceptional, innovative and diverse family-friendly programme. 

As the festival has grown in size and ambition, so too has the need to improve how audiences access information and engage with the event — particularly in a way that complements its creative energy and operational scale. In preparation for the 2025 event, Out There Arts recognised the importance of providing a more dynamic, accessible, and user-friendly way for attendees to plan and enhance their festival experience.

The process

To meet this need, Out There Arts adopted the Infinite Destinations app platform, launching a dedicated Out There Festival app designed to serve as a digital companion for festival-goers. Built with an intuitive interface and tailored functionality, the app offers a suite of features to make the festival more navigable and engaging, including:

  • A comprehensive event schedule

  • Personalised scheduling tools and reminder notifications

  • An interactive festival map for ease of navigation at the event 

  • A ‘favourite’ feature to bookmark key performances

The development process focused on both aesthetics and functionality, ensuring the user experience felt seamless, informative, and inspiring — in line with the festival's brand. Crucially, the app was also designed to support engagement before, during, and after the event, allowing Out There Arts to extend the life and reach of their programming.

The outcome

With the 2025 festival approaching, the Out There app is poised to transform how audiences interact with the event. By improving access to essential information and enabling personalised festival journeys, the app offers both practical benefits and a deeper sense of connection between Out There Arts and its community.

Initial feedback has been positive, and the team is optimistic about the data, insights, and engagement opportunities the app will provide. Looking ahead, Out There Arts hopes to build on the app’s success for future festivals.
