Exploring a new housing development through interactive AR
Flagship Homes wanted to market their Printworks development in a way that was both practical and engaging. We created an AR app that let prospective buyers explore a virtual model of the entire development, either in the marketing suite or at home. With interactive features, it helped people visualise their options and bring potential new homes to life.
The challenge
Flagship Homes is a property developer with a social purpose – to build affordable homes and support communities. For their Printworks development near Cambridge, they needed a way to market properties that went beyond traditional brochures and static visuals. The challenge was to give prospective buyers an intuitive, accessible way to understand the layout of the development, compare properties and get a feel for the scale of their future home. Any solution also had to be flexible, working both in the Flagship marketing suite on iPads and on smartphones so buyers could explore in their own time.
The process
We devised an AR app that recreated the Printworks development as a virtual 3D model. Users could place and view the entire site on a tabletop, then move closer to inspect individual homes. Each property featured interactive hotspots linking to floorplans, CGI visuals and descriptions. We also added practical tools such as filters for price, property type and bedrooms, colour-coded availability indicators and markers highlighting incentives. The app was designed for ease of use – both in the marketing suite and on personal devices – making it a versatile and valuable tool for prospective homeowners.
The outcome
The AR app gave prospective buyers an engaging way to explore the Printworks development in detail. By combining an overall view of the site with interactive features for each property, it helped people quickly compare options and narrow their choices. Hotspots, filters and availability markers made the process intuitive, while the ability to save favourites added personal relevance. Useful information on the area, services and Flagship’s values strengthened the connection between buyers and the brand. As a sales tool, the app not only enhanced customer engagement but also supported Flagship’s wider mission of making affordable housing more accessible.
