Using digital innovation to transform event planning and engagement
Out There Arts, a registered charity in Great Yarmouth, champions circus, street and outdoor arts through its acclaimed Out There Festival. Attracting over 60,000 visitors annually, the festival is known for its diverse, family-friendly programme. To support its growth and creative ambition, the organisation sought a more dynamic way to connect with audiences and enhance the festival experience.
The challenge
As the Out There Festival has grown in size and ambition, so too has the need to improve how audiences access information and engage with the event – particularly in a way that complements its creative energy and operational scale. In preparation for the 2025 event, Out There Arts recognised the importance of providing a more accessible, mobile-first festival app to help attendees plan their visit, navigate the site and stay informed in real time.
The process
To meet this need, Out There Arts adopted the Infinite Destinations app platform, launching a dedicated Out There Festival app designed to serve as a digital companion for festival-goers. Built with an intuitive interface and tailored functionality, the app included an interactive event schedule, personalised scheduling tools with reminders, an interactive festival map for easy navigation, and a ‘favourite’ feature to bookmark key performances.
The development process focused on both aesthetics and functionality, ensuring the user experience felt seamless, informative and inspiring – in-line with the festival’s brand. Crucially, the app was designed to support engagement before, during and after the event, creating touchpoints that extended the festival’s impact beyond its core weekend. The result was an inspiring digital hub that put the festival programme at visitors’ fingertips.
The outcome
The results exceeded expectations. Against an initial target of 500 installs, the Out There Festival app achieved over 1,260 downloads during the 2025 event – surpassing goals by more than 150%.
Audiences embraced the convenience and interactivity of the platform, with Out There Arts reporting significant benefits in being able to communicate directly with attendees in real-time. Feedback highlighted the app’s usability and value in navigating the busy festival schedule. Looking ahead, Out There Arts hope to build on the app’s success, extending its role in supporting audience engagement and enahcing the visitor experience across future festivals.
