Drone Video Production
What is drone footage?
Drone footage is aerial filming from a drone. It involves attaching a camera to the bottom of the drone and flying it over a specific landscape, area or action to capture it from the air. This applies to both 2D and 360º video and requires a skilled pilot in order to capture smooth, good quality footage.
Why use aerial footage?
Aerial footage adds an epic dimension to video, especially 360º video – where the viewer feels like they are flying. It allows us to capture unique angles of action and gives an extra level of exhilaration to an experience. For 360º experiences using drone footage, we edit out the drone in post-production so it really does feel like you’re flying. We’ve included drone footage for clients such as Lotus Driving Academy and Swansea University.
What are the benefits?
Unique perspective
Aerial footage gives you visuals that are instantly striking. Film captured by drone gives a unique perspective that adds impact to your video, allowing viewers to engage with content that gives them an otherwise impossible view of the action, from a high-speed race to dramatic scenery.
Tell a complete story
Drone footage lets you show a story in its entirety, especially at events with a lot of fast action such as sports. It also lets you get up close to scenery or objects that are out of reach of handheld cameras, e.g. up high or in dangerous terrain. And with a bird’s-eye views over your location, you can see much more in a single shot, from a university campus to a cityscape, which is especially engaging in 360º.
Value for money
Back in the day, aerial footage was only possible with a helicopter and cameraman. Now drone pilots are the camera operator and no helicopters are needed – making it a lot cheaper. What’s more, drones can stream footage to a pilot’s controller so you can adjust angles and framing on the go, making sure you always get the right footage first time.
How do we do it?
Flying drones for commercial purposes requires a licence from a CAA approved provider. Our team includes a qualified drone pilot who enables us to film using our Mavic 2 Pro drone and we also have good relationships with freelance drone pilots across the country, giving us access to a range of drone types and filming possibilities.
Do you have a message you want to convey? A situation that needs simulating, or an audience that needs reaching? Whatever your challenge – we have the ideas, the experience, and the equipment to help.
