A Caribbean destination in the palm of your hand
The Task
The Cayman Islands are made up of three islands in the western Caribbean Sea, covering 102 square metres of stunning scenery, adventurous spirit and a lively culture. The Department of Tourism wanted to attract more people to the islands. They planned to engage media contacts to spread the word – and they wanted to use an immersive experience to do it.
So they came to us to see if we could create an AR app that enabled PR and media professionals to explore the islands, with a view to expanding the experience for use by visitors and tourists too. And, of course, we said yes.
The Outcome
The idea was crafted to be simple but effective. We created 3D models of the three Cayman islands and built them to launch without a marker, so users could enjoy the experience anywhere. Each island was dotted with hot spots offering videos, images and interesting information about different parts of the island. And to add a sense of vibrancy, we included animations that encapsulated island life, like a sailing boat circling the coastline and palm trees blowing in the breeze.
Users could toggle through the models of each island to explore in turn, and we filled the rest of the app with inspiring – and useful – information about the destination, such as places to go, activities to try and a gallery to encourage visits. All the content can be edited via the CMS, giving the app scope to be extended in future to include handy on-the-ground info for tourists on holiday.
With the app accessible via the App Store and Google Play, we also created a promo video to help the client’s PR strategy, so they could share the video at media events to encourage downloads.
Do you have a message you want to convey? A situation that needs simulating, or an audience that needs reaching? Whatever your challenge – we have the ideas, the experience, and the equipment to help.
