Serving Up Fan Engagement at Wimbledon 2025
Wimbledon, a tournament steeped in tradition, has once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation this year, leveraging cutting-edge technology to create an unparalleled fan experience. The 2025 Championships have showcased several excellent examples of how digital advancements, particularly in Artificial Intelligence, are bringing fans closer to the action and offering deeper insights into the world of tennis.
At the forefront of this technological drive is Wimbledon's long-standing partnership with IBM, which has delivered two headline-grabbing AI-powered features: Match Chat and an enhanced Likelihood to Win tool. These innovations exemplify a strategic vision to merge rich data with accessible, real-time fan engagement.

Making its highly anticipated debut this year, "Match Chat" has transformed the way fans interact with live matches. This interactive AI assistant, available through the official Wimbledon App and wimbledon.com, allows users to ask specific questions about ongoing ladies' and gentlemen's singles matches. Whether it's "Who has converted more break points in the match?" or "Who is performing better?", Match Chat provides instant, accurate, and contextually rich responses.
The power behind Match Chat lies in its meticulous training. The bot has been specifically trained on Wimbledon's unique editorial style and the nuanced language of tennis. This ensures that every interaction feels authentic and truly insightful, providing a deeper layer of understanding beyond traditional commentary. Furthermore, Match Chat extends its utility beyond live play, offering post-match analysis for selected high-profile encounters, allowing fans to dissect key moments long after the final point.
Wimbledon continues to extend its digital footprint to engage new and younger audiences. Initiatives like the official digital experience in Roblox (WimbleWorld) and previous Fortnite activations demonstrate a forward-thinking approach to reaching diverse fan bases through immersive gaming platforms. The official Wimbledon app itself remains a cornerstone of the digital experience, offering everything from live scores and audio commentary to fantasy games and information on amenities within the grounds.
Usama Al-Qassab, Marketing & Commercial Director at the All England Club, perfectly encapsulates this vision: "We are committed to providing fans with the best possible Wimbledon experience, whether they interact with us through TV, radio, digitally or within the grounds. The innovations we have introduced in recent years, driven by generative AI, in conjunction with IBM, allow us to provide more exciting ways for our hundreds of millions of fans around the world to interact with The Championships."
This year's Wimbledon has truly set a new benchmark for fan engagement in sports, proving that a blend of rich heritage and cutting-edge technology can create a more interactive, insightful, and ultimately, more compelling experience for tennis enthusiasts worldwide.
